Because We Can
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly daily, mostly unedited) writing practice
Jotting from my journal. Day #221 of (mostly unedited, mostly daily) writing/sharing.
Note: (I will now be posting MY (MOSTLY) DAILY WRITING on weekdays only, rather than 7 days/week
Because We Can
May we forget to hold on to what happened yesterday, and all the days before yesterday, forget to hold tight to that which was never meant to be held. May we forget to take our thoughts seriously—unless they are abundantly kind, gushing with grace, beaming with love. May we lean, always, toward love, especially when we’re scared. May we be abundantly generous with our compliments, our kindness, choose not to believe in lack or less or anything that makes us feel bad. May we open our mouths to feed one another, like the cardinal at my dear friend’s feeder opened its mouth to feed the small sparrow struggling to find food. May the word yes always be on the tip of our tongue. May we scatter seeds wherever we go— because we can.

I love this poem so much, Julia. That imagine of the Cardinal feeding the Sparrow moves me to tears everything I think about it. Thank you for these beautiful words. They so lovingly capture what I wish for us all.
Your pen to Grace's ears. Would that such solidarity and happy interdependency were as instinctive and everyday to our species as this poem would have it be. Thank you for giving me something to aim for, a tweaking of thought back toward compassion and away from the rage which has hobbled it of late.
