Cracked & Imperfect
A poem for your Monday & an invite to a "Conversation in Poetry" with poet Maya Stein
The below poem was written today, day #54 of my (mostly unedited) daily writing/sharing.
PS: I would love to have you join poet Maya Stein & me this Thursday, April 3rd for a Conversation in Poetry. See below for details (and a registration link that works this time!).
Day #54 of daily writing/sharing
Cracked & Imperfect
There is a crack, a crack in everything That's how the light gets in —Leonard Cohen If it doesn't have to be pretty or profound or perfect, maybe it can simply be true. And, what is true? The red flowering currant does not know how to try, yet, she fills us with such glorious color, rivers do not need a map, yet, they know just how to get to the sea— our sun never speaks a word, yet she gives life to everything— and, as the songwriter said: the cracks are how the light gets in. So, in case you need permission, please, just be the you that you are, simply speak what is true— let yourself be cracked and imperfect— it's how the light gets in.
I am thrilled to share that poet Maya Stein & I will be having "A Conversation in Poetry” onThursday, April 3, 2025 at 4:00 (PST), 7:00 (Eastern).
NOTE: If you are unable to make it live, you will receive a link to the recording (if you register).
All of the details and the link to register are below. If, for some reason, the below links do not work in your email, click on the banner at the top of this page & link over on my SUBSTACK PAGE.

Below words from Maya…
Poet Julia Fehrenbacher joins me to celebrate National Poetry Month as part of my new reading series, “A Conversation in Poetry.”
Seabird Hallelujah, the theme of our event, is inspired by a line of one of Julia's poems; we’ll use this as a loose guide for poems we’ll share. Interspersed with the readings will be an informal conversation in response to the poems, as well as the themes, concerns, ideas, and experiences that have risen up in the listening.
There will be space to ask questions, too! Some free tickets remain, as well as donation-based tickets ($10 suggested). Please click HERE to register (or on above image to register).
NOTE: There are 50 free tickets available, as well as 250 tickets by donation ($10 suggested). More donation-based tickets will be added if event count goes past 300
"Simply speak what is true..." you teach me this every day/week dearest Julia, thank you, with love xo
Julia, Thank you!
