Each Thing As Teacher
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly unedited) daily writing practice
Jotting from my journal. Day #171 of (mostly unedited) daily writing/sharing
Each Thing As Teacher
Please, let me walk through this new day doing no harm. Let me sprinkle kindness seeds wherever my pen, my words, my feet take me, may I bend to inhale the lavender in the neighbor's yard, smile warmly at the toddler on her tricycle, at the stern man leaving the café, pause to place my hand on the body of the young maple, the maple that reminds me of my roots in the Green Mountain state. May I remember my roots, water the geraniums, really be there while I water the germaniums, give the cat extra pets and fishy treats, pick flowers from the front yard, place them in a vase, place the vase on the kitchen table. May I make the donation. Today, may I greet this new day like it's new, like a new thing that I have never before seen. May I bow in prayer, in reverence, may I treat each thing as my teacher— even startling noises, even the sorrow, even the one who does not smile back
