Far From Fine
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly daily, mostly unedited) writing practice
Thank you for the invitation, beautiful Beth Kempton.
Day #236 of (mostly unedited, mostly daily) writing/sharing.
Far From Fine
She invited us to write a tiny autumn poem using the word crunched as our spark. All I can think of is that cereal I ate as a young girl, the peanut buttery sugar glaze left on my teeth, the sweet, pink things pretending to be berries—which reminds me of how crunched I felt beneath his rage, her silence—their pretending all was fine when it was far, far from fine.

Wow, Julia. The complexity in this, all around "crunched"...so much said in so few words.
Whoa. What we as kids are sometimes forced to absorb.
