Dearest Julia.

Thank you for these words creeping out from an uncomfortable place. But I'm thankful more for the invitation to nest with you in the dark even from so far away. Your words are always a treasure and help me be alive.

My heart was gladdened just now in a Map of Love Sangha breakout room where two men were sharing the joy they are having in two year old grand children growing up in multilingual families. They are bubbling over with the joy of living and burbling in a mixture of languages, both thier own made up words jumbled with new ones they are learning.

Awaking to the beauty of joy around me is a source of happiness and thankfulness. And your public presence is this too. I offer you a virtual but real hug.

But isn't that precisely what every poem is? --- a groping, straining, reaching toward the light?

Be it ever so dark around us, poets (you notably among them!) offer us at least the promise of light, as small but as certain as a distant star; and for that, I am abidingly grateful.
