Her Marigolds
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly daily, mostly unedited) writing practice
Day #222 of (mostly unedited, mostly daily) writing/sharing.
Note: (I will now be posting MY (MOSTLY) DAILY WRITING on weekdays only, rather than 7 days/week
Her Marigolds
The bright orange marigolds she planted last spring are still bright and orange, even though it is dipping into the low 40s at night, even though the trees are almost bare, November almost here— even though the world is a wild mess. The last time we saw her walking down our neighborhood street, she looked so tired— the last time we spoke to her husband, he told us she was on hospice. It’s been quiet over there these last few days, lights out, shades drawn. No sign of either of them— but the marigolds are still bright and orange—still, for now, so very alive.

Thomas's comment so beautifully captures my experience of this poem. It is so moving and vivid.
Very moving. I feel rooted in the language as I read. So vivid, poignant, beautiful.
