How Can It Be?
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly unedited) daily writing practice
Day #175 of (mostly unedited) daily writing/sharing
How Can It Be?
How can it be that one of us sits
in summer's warm lap,
eating a fresh, drippy, sweeter
than sweet peach,
a glass of water to quench
every thirst, a glass of water I did not
have to beg for, walk many horrifying
miles for, risk my child's life for—
while another collapses from lack,
lack of food, water, shelter,
lack of relief
from unbearable grief.
One of us holds her baby safely
in her arms, sings her lullaby
after lullaby, bellies full full full—
while so many bend to bury
theirs. How
can it be?
How can we make it not be?UPCOMING EVENT

Day 21, Jill's morning writes, excerpt:
God, what am I being asked to do here? Keep writing. Something deep is here. How you love and hate - how we all love and hate - speaking out of both sides of our mouths. How this is being human. How this, too, is being human. How challenged I am to let others also be their human selves, full of foibles and contradictions and inconsistencies. Get off your fucking high horse, my dear. We are all making sense of this world as best we can, as best we can. Learn to love, learning to love "the other" - even if it's your Trump-loving brother. Especially if it's your Trump-loving brother. Amen and Amen.
lack of relief

This paradoxical life. x
