Nothing to Prove
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly unedited) daily writing practice
Jotting from my journal. Day #174 of (mostly unedited) daily writing/sharing
Nothing to Prove
I can use these words however I choose— can use them to condemn, blame, shame, can fling them around like sticks, like stones, like weapons that will break your bones. But this world does not need anymore weapons, does not need another human trying to prove their wisdom, their worth. Instead, let these words be a most gentle breeze, a breeze that softens and soothes the hardness from your ancient wounds— let these words be a hammock that gentle sways while you snooze in the quiet shade, let these words remind you that you were made just right, like tree, like river, like stone— nothing to prove— not a single thing to prove.

Oh, Julia, thank you. To be held in the gently swaying hammock of grace. Devoutly to be wished, as Hamlet says!
"let these words be a hammock
that gentle sways
while you snooze
in the quiet shade"
This image is so tangible, so comforting, so absolutely lovely.
