Pick Up the Pen Anyway
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly daily, mostly unedited) writing practice
Day #242 of (mostly unedited, mostly daily) writing/sharing
Pick Up the Pen Anyway
Such simple tools— pen, paper, a thirst that won’t go away, a few moments to lift your eyes and notice what is here— the scent of citrus, the almost-leafless maple, a table full of poetry, to notice what stirs in you as you notice. When the mind hisses: You can’t. You don’t have time— laugh. And then pick up the pen anyway— show the mind how laughably wrong it is, write as if you are dying of thirst and words are your water.

I love this beautiful poem, Julia. Gentle and powerful!
Oh Julia, how mysteriously the stardust of the universe is sprinkled upon us. I sit here this morning with my pen and notebook writing about this very thing. Now your poem has a home in my notebook today to have conversation with the words on my page. What a blessed gift! Thank you!
