She is Speaking
A Poem for Your Thursday & Special Announcements
Sometimes the simplest and best use of our will is to drop it all and just walk out from under everything that is covering us, even if only for an hour or so—just walk out from under the webs we’ve spun, the tasks we’ve assumed, the problems we have to solve. They’ll be there when we get back, and maybe some of them will fall apart without our worry to hold them up. — Mark Nepo
Dear you,
I write to you from gorgeous Burlington, Vermont where the trees are in their full golden (and orange & red) glory. I am here visiting my mom and, for the last week or so, I have dropped it all so that I can be all the way here. It has been lovely.
Below is a poem of mine ( from my book “Staying in Love”) that speaks to listening to that deep & beneath voice, along with information about my upcoming offerings (for paid subscribers of my Substack page).
Also, REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for my next six week pre-holiday “Write Yourself Free” series (for women), with a focus on making a home inside ourselves. Class begins on Tuesday, November 4th. Please see below for more information.
I hope I get to see you very soon!
With an abundance of love,
Julia xo
PS: Look closely at the below photo (taken by my daughter, Lily)…there’s a sweet little someone tucked in there.
She is Speaking
Do you hear her under there? She is speaking. Her voice quieter, fiercer, more certain than the others. Her whispers will make little sense to your sensible mind. Listen anyway. This morning I stood still. So still for so long that I saw shadow slip slide drift her way across leaf-strewn lawn. And, I know. Not because of a thought, not because I have been told or taught, not because I have read it in a hundred wise books, I know that stillness is the way to her. And that we are sick and dying from listening to the cowardly voices of others. Inside, underneath, in-between the senseless hurry, she is here. Like sunshine, like always-shifting shadow, like the lilies in the light-filled field—she is speaking. Will you bend closer to listen? Will you follow her quiet roar? Can you think of a single thing that matters more?
Speaking of stillness & listening, that’s exactly what we will be doing together in my upcoming six week writing series…
NOW REGISTERING
In this six-week writing series, we will explore that holy field that poet, Rumi, speaks about, that field “beyond wrongdoing and rightdoing.” The field beyond “good” and “bad.” The field beyond censoring and judgment.
Write Yourself Free is all about freeing ourselves so that we can write & live from true, rather than writing and living from a place of trying to be “good.”
You absolutely do not need to call yourself a writer to find great richness in this class.
Please click on the below button for more information.
PS: If you have taken six week classes with me in the past, use coupon code: Alumni for $25.00 off (no expiration).

Oh, I love that she. Thanks for the reminder to listen to her more often, Julia. Beautiful musicality in this poem, too. ❤️
Such a beautiful, invitational reminder. Thank you, Julia 💕
