“Creative Reminder: There are seasons for making the thing and seasons for becoming the person who can make the thing.”
—Kate Van Horn
It’s been a long while since I’ve written a new poem. I have been scribbling words on the page, but nothing has made its way out of my notebook.
I have been sitting with, working with, asking questions of the below poem for the last couple of days, and it tells me it’s ready to be shared.
I suspect that the above quote by Kate Van Horn has something to do with this poem emerging.
It seems the moment I gave myself permission not to need to make a thing, a thing got made.
So, here it is.
The messy human in me bows to the messy human in you,
Julia 💓
Salvation
Should I stay silent until I find words good enough, true enough? Or, should I begin here with the crickets steeping the evening with song— a song no one asked for. Oh, how their chorus quiets the chirp chirp chirping in me. Six-legged ones making music with their own wings. Have they ever once wondered if the moment is worthy of song?
