The Cure for it All
For your Sunday: a poem, a meditation & an invitation to pause (and an update on my Substack subscription)
“Whatever the circumstances, may this serve the awakening of compassion and wisdom. And may this awakening be of benefit to all. “ —Buddhist prayer
The Cure for it All
Go gently today, don’t hurry
or think about the next thing. Walk
with the quiet trees, can you believe
how brave they are—how kind? Model your life
after theirs. Blow kisses
at yourself in the mirror
especially when
you think you’ve messed up. Forgive
yourself for not meeting your unreasonable
expectations.
Praise fresh air
clean water, good dogs. Spin
something from joy. Open
a window, even if
it’s cold outside. Sit. Close
your eyes. Breathe. Allow
the river of it all to pulse
through eyelashes
fingertips, bare toes. Breathe in
breathe out. Breathe until
you feel your bigness,
until the sun rises in your veins.
Breathe until you stop needing anything to be different.
If you are in need of some perspective, hope, calming of your nervous system right now (or any time) I could not recommend the below talk/meditation by the amazing author, mindfulness teacher, incredibly compassionate & caring woman Tara Brach.
This 51 minute talk gives so many incredible ideas of how we can calm these overactive nervous systems of ours.
I can’t think of a better gift to offer right now….

Be sure to read below for some things I am doing right now to help nourish and calm myself in the midst of a whole lot…
A few logistics…
I have dropped the price of my paid Substack subscription. If you are already a paid subscriber, I thank you so very much.
Unfortunately, I am unable to change your subscription amount to the lower price, but please know that if you are paying monthly & would like to cancel and resubscribe at the lower price that is very much an option for you.
Also…
I plan on posting more often on my Substack page, but I don’t want to overwhelm your inbox so I will not be emailing every post. Sometimes my posts will be under the “notes” section, sometimes on the home page, sometimes I will start “chats” with paid subscribers…
If you would like to receive more of my poetry, my ponderings, and my invitations to write yourself free, you will want to subscribe to my Substack page (free or paid) so you can access those more regular writings.
When the world is too scary, too loud, too much: Stop consuming. Start Creating. —Amy McNee
In the midst of - so much - I am finding it more and more necessary, critical really, to stop consuming and start creating.
Yesterday, I deleted my social media apps off of my cell. Hallelujah!
What a difference it is making to have less less less consumption and more time for breathing, walking in nature, creating, connecting…
As Tara Brach so beautifully says: We’ll need to respond to our world, yet it has to come from a resourced space.”
Whatever the circumstances, may this serve the awakening of compassion and wisdom. And may this awakening be of benefit to all….(Buddhist prayer)
This is my prayer for me, for you.
Thank you again, so very much, for your incredibly loving, caring messages. They truly mean the world to me.
With so much love,
Julia
