Today feels like the day to re-share this poem.
So many blessings & love to you, beautiful reader. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being here. Oh, and happy October. xo
The Mighty Sage
It is not possible
to keep it all,
some will be lost
along the way.
The road will appear,
then disappear
a thousand tired times.
Finally, and right on time,
you will remember
you were never meant
for the beaten path.
You will tug at countless doors, some
will swing smiling open,
others will seal themselves
safely shut.
And then, with delicious delight !
you will remember
there is no door to the open sky
and what beats inside you
can never be lost.
When days get dark, remember
the sun still pours her light, remember
you have never needed to force
the ground to hold you, remember
songbirds do not need to be taught
to sing.
My darling, my love, my holy
holder of light, look at yourself
and marvel. Remember
there is a mighty sage inside you
who has always whispered the way, who
has tossed you a sky full of stars—
go now—scatter them,
scatter them
everywhere.
Invitation to write yourself free…
If you feel called, choose a line (or even a single word) that especially speaks to you from my above poem.
Grab your notebook and a free-flowing, yummy pen, set your timer for 10 minutes (or whatever time feels best) and write yourself wildly free!
Writing Practice "Rules"
(As created, with some of my own tweaks, by one of my greatest teachers Natalie Goldberg)
Give yourself permission to write the worst junk in the world (this is the most important one!). Writing practice is very much not about trying to be "good," it is about opening the door and allowing space for your insides to speak (without any pressure, agenda, or expectations). It is simply saying what is true, what is true, what is true.
Keep your hand moving. No stopping to edit (no crossing out, no re-reading, no attention to spelling/grammar). The reason for this fast writing is to outrun the editor who really wants to be in control. Give yourself full permission to lose control!
Go for the jugular. If there is energy there, dive straight into it.
Enjoy! Play. Have fun.
* Please feel free to share some of the "recalls" from your own writing. Recalls are simply phrases/lines that feel especially poignant/resonant/goosebumpy/true to you.
