The Only True Place
A brand new poem & wishes for a bright & merry holiday & solstice
A couple of mornings ago, I woke with the below words in my head/heart/whole being. They insisted on being written down…
The Only True Place
You've been running for so long now, my child. Please, come back. Back to the hush of the slowly slipping snow, back to the hum of your own haloed heart. Listen — the darkest days are coming. Here is a match, light the candle, sit now and warm your tired, tired hands. Let the cold winter wind show you how to breathe again. I've been calling your name forever now, my love, come. Come here. Let's catch snowflakes on our tongues, let's warm ourselves by this friendly fire. There is no hurry. Here has always been the only true place. Hear this: With my hand in yours, you can walk through any dark day. The fire has always been big enough. Please, please— come back.

Dear Readers,
Thank you, infinitely, for being here. You are one of the “things” at the tippy top of my gratitude list.
If you are here reading, please say hello (on my Substack page or by replying back to this email). Few things make me happier than hearing from you.
I will most likely be pretty quiet (for the next week or so) as I turn my attention toward this time with my little family.
I hope you have a bright, merry holiday. May we be here for what’s here.
With so much love and appreciation,
Julia xo
PS: I often share little bits of inspiration under “NOTES” on my Substack page….come, come!

Wishing you a happy Christmas and a meaningful Solstice too, Julia. Your work never fails to inspire me. Thank you.
Absolutely beautiful. Happy 1st day of winter (tomorrow).
