A Prayer for Every Day
Let me breathe only grace today, only that which slows, steadies, softens, sparks only that which points to the blossoms inside the broken, the poetry inside the pain, the nourishing newness inside the now. Let me breathe only grace today, only that which invites me to speak my very own language for as long as I have breath, only that which hums: You can. You will. Let me breathe only grace today, only that which notices the tired and says, lie back, Love—rest for as long as you need to. It’s not about how much you do but how full you are. And, my God, how beautiful you are when you are full.
A Prayer for Every Day is one of 99 poems in my book Staying in Love. Signed copies are available at the below link…

On another note, you are invited to come delight with me!
Inspired by Ross Gay’s book The Book of Delights, I have created a space on my Substack page to spread some goodness around.
A sharing of daily delights (Write Yourself Free style)….
To choose delight is a revolutionary act. -Ross Gay
“Where attention goes, energy flows.” —James Redfield
I have no doubt that everything depends on where we place our attention.
What would happen if you intentionally shift your focus toward delight. Or toward more delight?
This can be as simple as stopping long enough to really look at a flower, or noticing a dew drop at the tip of a branch, or a beautifully kind interaction with another, or marveling in the absolute miracle of your body, of life, or really tasting that first sip of coffee…
Ordinary every day things that you might not notice when you’re busily running from this thing to that thing. Or when you’re stuck inside the mud & muck of your mind, spinning in doom and gloom, drowning in heaviness…
In the midst of so much trauma & terror, it is vital to bow to such holy, ordinary things…

With a whole ton of love,

♥️♥️♥️ Thanks for all of this Julia! Very grateful for you!
Water and poems. Savouring them this early-morning.
My body is ridiculously tired, friend. It is in dire disrepair. I'm not super-optimistic of making it out of my fifties (4.5 years remaining). But what is true of me is true of everyone: every day one wakes up is gift, is grace, is miracle.
There are many "thankworthies" each day. Yesterday, seeing friends at St James's. Bob and Sarah. Katia and Anne, both over ninety. Hilary of the restorative hug. Debbie and Jackie at the diner after church. Getting errands done. Coming home to nap.
Julia (and Claire, and others), I hope your thanksgiving was graced. Thank you (both!) for your poetry.
