A Letter from Love

How beautiful it is to doubt, 
to be restless, relentless 
in your pursuit of something
you cannot name, 

this heaviness, this weighted weight 
of worry and weariness
show you how, still, 
you are trying too hard—

show you how you still think 
you make the sun rise, my darling—

it is this heaviness 
you must turn toward, 
tend to, 

in meeting the weight, 
you meet the bigness that has always 
been here, has never left, 
not even for a moment. Let 

this bigness cradle your tired head 
in her warm, warrior hands, fall back 
into her lap of tenderness, 

let her remind you to set down 
what was never yours to carry,  
bring all of your worries 
and watch how held they are, 

then lie back, my beautiful love, 
and rest for as long as it takes 
to remember.
