Imagining
The young man sitting on the cold, wet ground outside of the shopping center holds up a cardboard sign that says: I'd rather be an honest beggar than a billionaire liar. A moment before, I had been lost inside my own tangled head, but this— this wakes me up. I hand him some money and he says thank you with so much warmth and sincerity, my eyes and heart fill fill fill. I say a prayer for him as I walk away— please, let him be okay. As I sit now in my warm bed, listening to the still-falling rain, I think of him again— imagining him warm and tucked in, waking tomorrow to a world that takes care of its people.
