She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly unedited) daily writing practice
Meanwhile
Is there no end to this discontent? No end to the wanting that holds us hostage, holds us away from here, from this self, from the life we think we want. And then, we get the thing and realize, that no— it’s that thing, that thing over there that we really want need have to have. And on and on it goes. How many moments have we missed in pursuit of shinier things? Meanwhile, the days tick slowly, quickly by. We can go our whole lives like this— wanting getting not wanting. Meanwhile the sweet sun sets again, the daffodil blooms and dies, the close of another day, the turn of another page, remind us that it all ends. It all ends. Maybe all we really really need is to pause long enough to breathe in the scent of sadness, breathe in the dig of discontent, make friends with whatever is here, and then not here— breathe in the promise of this new, pouring-with-sunshine day— let it fill us so full, we walk around spilling little splashes of sunlight everywhere.

I just returned from a luchtime walk a little while ago. It is a "pouring-with-sunshine day" (goodness, how I love that phrase!), and I kept thinking of these lines:
"let it fill us so full, we walk
around spilling little splashes
of sunlight everywhere."
Oh Julia, the beauty of this....it just fills me up.
Yes, yes, agreed. Bowing to the wisdom. And to the best use of an adverb since the late Jane Kenyon wrote "Otherwise."
