More Than Half Wild
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly unedited) daily writing practice
The below words were written in my “Write Yourself Free” writing class this morning, written in writing practice style (unedited, keep-the-pen-moving, wildly free). It was inspired by the amazing poem “& So” by Amanda Gorman.
Day #36 of daily writing/sharing
More Than Half Wild
And so it is. The birds are singing again, and I refuse to plug my ears. I refuse to stick it out. I refuse to walk away. But here's my question. How do you know when to stay and when to go and why is every message I receive lately pointing to GO-ing? And is it up to me to interpret what going looks like? My mind is a dog chasing its tail, a merry-go-round, a teeter-totter. Ashes, ashes, we all fall down. What does it look like to fall down? What does it look like to unravel, to stay, to go? Why do I hold my breath so? What am I trying to keep away? Can I pause for a moment and invite it all in? What if I just sit here right now and maybe forever, sipping tea and poetry, breathing in these words like they are all that will keep me alive. These words, these warriors with superpowers, these saviors—I bow to you. What I really want to say is, I want to feel a stirring, an opening—that feeling when you feel undeniably beautiful, wanted, way more than worthy. Delicious. Desired. I want to be hungry. I want to howl with the wild, wild wolves—not a single thing trying to quiet the howl. I want to roar like a lion released from her cage. What is my cage? These judgments. These monsters inside me. His voice. Her voice. What does my voice say? What does my voice say? Be brave, my wild warrior. It's time to be more than half wild.
