No Happy Ending
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly unedited) daily writing practice
Jotting from my journal…. Day #55 of daily writing/sharing
No Happy Ending
Even though spiders give me the creeps and rodents make me scream and stand on furniture— when I call for my husband, I insist (very nicely) that he please take "it"outside very gently, please don't hurt it. One time, while camping, sitting around the campfire, ants gathered on one of the marshmallow roasting sticks, when my husband put the ant-swarming stick into the fire, our young daughters cried and cried— as many creatures as he's saved, we won't let him live this down. So, when the tiny ants try to take over our house this spring, dozens of them inside cabinets, inside the honey and agave bottles, congregating on every windowsill and baseboard, it hurts me to have to kill them. Just this very morning, I sprayed bleach and smushed them hard to make it as quick and painless as possible. But now, I'm just—sad. There is no happy ending to this story, just a woman here typing words, trying to convince myself I didn't have a choice.
