No Such Thing As Alone
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly unedited) daily writing practice
Day #137 of (mostly unedited) daily writing/sharing
No Such Thing As Alone
I am alone here with my mind again, the familiar old warnings felt between throat and ribcage— lawyers, judges, politicians dressed in white, policing thoughts, words, decisions— smallness, vanity, greed disguised as power. The father with his belt, the mother who locks her children in the bathroom to protect them from the father with his belt. Held breath that you think will keep you safe, it never does. You, meaning me, me meaning you. When one of us gets hurt, don't we all get hurt? There is no way to separate you from me. I am alone here with my mind again. There is no such thing as alone.
