Storm Alert
She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly unedited) daily writing practice
Written on the eve of International Women’s Day
STORM ALERT
It is International Women's Day and, after a full day of doing doing doing, this evening I am celebrating by listening to myself breathe, by swatting away the voices that insist I should be doing something other than this, by laughing at the word should. I am celebrating by praising this wild, wondrous woman inside of me who is finally learning how to listen to the sound of her own voice. Not just listen but bow deeply to this thundering one inside. I bow too to every woman I have ever been, and not been. And to you, dear woman, the one who is here breathing with me, the one who is here laughing at anything that tries to stuff her into smallness. There is a mighty storm brewing, a force of fierceness that will blow the roof off of every false thing. Do you hear the distant rumbling?

Yes! I am joining you in learning how to "bow deeply/to this thundering one inside." This reminds me of Ana's prayer in Sue Monk Kidd's The Book of Longings: "Bless the largeness inside me, no matter how I fear it."
