She Will Not Be Quiet: A (mostly unedited) daily writing practice
This is What Resistance Looks Like Today
When it seems the whole world has lost its way, perhaps the best thing to do is to say thank you to these eyes that see my daughter's joyful laughter spilling spilling spilling after many hard days— pause in a moment to get as close as possible to the furry caterpillar making her slow, slow way across the pine-needled path— stand in my sunlit kitchen, bare feet on the hickory floor, and squeeze fresh lemon into a glass of water, drink slowly so as not to miss a single citrusy sip, pause to catch these words before they slip. Perhaps the best thing to do is to linger long enough to notice the honeybee drinking from the red poppy. Did you know that bees fall asleep in flowers? They wake there too. Could anything be more beautiful? Oh, what a world it would be if we fell asleep and woke in flowers.
